Fulbright Artist Showcase at the US Embassy on Culture Night

The Fulbright Commission and the US Embassy, along with a few  Icelandic artists who have received Fulbright grants in the past years, invite you to an open house with a focus on music and visual arts.


Agenda:

1 PM         Art exhibit opens with art by Katrín Inga Jónsdóttir Hjördísardóttir, Ingibjörg Jóhannsdóttir and Sossa (Margrét Björnsdóttir). Guided tours by artists and embassy staff.

1 PM         Film program by Oskar Thor Axelsson in the conference room. Trailers from “Black´s Game” (Svartur á leik) and Short films made by Oskar while in U.S. on his Fulbright grant.

1 PM         Kristin Jonina Taylor’s performance of "Four Norwegian Dances, opus 35" eftir Edvard Grieg shown on video in the Fireplace area.

1.20 PM    Tinna Thorsteinsdottir, pianist, performs compositions by U.S. composer John Cage and Icelandic composers on a Toy Piano.

2 PM         Q&A with filmmaker Oskar Thor Axelsson in the U.S. Embassy conference room.

2.25 PM    Halldor Smarason, pianist and composer, & Nadia Palsdottir, vocalist, perform a selection of American and Icelandic songs.

2.55 PM    Kristin Jonina Taylor’s performance of "Four Norwegian Dances, opus 35" eftir Edvard Grieg shown on video in the Fireplace area.

3.15 PM     Halla Steinunn Stefansdottir, violinist, performs “Sleeping Pendulum” by Maria Huld Markan on an electric violin. Halla Steinunn commissioned and premiered the piece in 2010. Sleeping Pendulum  was chosen for the honorary roster of the International Rostrum of Composers in 2012 and will be released shortly on Nordic Affect´s new album. 

3.40 PM     Berglind María Tómasdóttir, flutist, performs "Air" by Toru Takemitsu, "Sarabande" by Johann Sebastian Bach, "Quays" by Giacinto Scelsi and "Bambaló" by Berglind María Tómasdóttir.

4 PM         Closing of Embassy doors. Thank you for visiting the U.S. Embassy.
