The American-Icelandic Chamber of Commerce notes the announcement of the Icelandic Government that capital controls have been lifted with effect on Tuesday. The Government of Iceland today announces that capital controls on the country's individuals, firms, and pension funds have been lifted with effect on Tuesday. The removal of the capital controls, which stabilised the currency and economy during the country's unprecedented financial crash, represents the completion of Iceland's return to international financial markets.
Yesterday morning the American-Icelandic Chamber of Commerce and Business Iceland had the pleasure of having Gudmundur Hafsteinsson, Director of Product Development at Google Assistant, as speaker at a breakfast meeting at Harpa Conference Center. Gudmundur talked about the innovation environment in Silicon Valley and compared it with Iceland. He also talked about technological advancements in the field of voice control and artificial intelligence.

This past Wednesday the American-Icelandic Chamber of Commerce, the Institute of International Affairs at the University of Iceland and LOGOS held a post presidential election meeting. Friđjón Friđjónsson, Managing Director of KOM, and Silja Bára Ómarsdóttir, adjunct at the University of Iceland, discussed the somewhat unexpected victory of Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton. The meeting was moderated by Sigríđur Á. Andersen, a member of Parliament.

Hulda Bjarnadóttir has been appointed Managing Director of The American-Icelandic Chamber of Commerce as of March 1st 2016. Hulda succeeds Kristin S. Hjálmtýsdóttir, who recently took over as Managing Director of the Icelandic Red Cross.

The Icelandic-American Chamber of Commerce luncheon and annual meeting takes place on Wednesday, September 24 at 11:15 a.m. in the Halldór Laxnes Library at Scandinavia House, 58 Park Avenue, New York.
